THE driver of a large lorry was arrested in Laois today, after gardaí received a series of concerned calls from the public.
The driver failed a roadside breath test for alcohol, after the vehicle was located and stopped on the M7 motorway.
Gardaí said they received ‘multiple calls’ from other road users, as the HGV was causing serious concern on the busy motorway.
The Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU) located the articulated lorry, after different callers reported the same concerns.
The HGV driver was arrested after failing a roadside test and was brought to a garda station to give a sample.
Gardaí confirmed this evening that court proceedings have commenced against the driver.
Posting a picture from the scene (above) on the An Garda Síochána Laois Offaly social media sites, gardaí said: ‘When several members of the public feel the need to pick up the phone about your vehicle, it’s not because they're admiring the paintwork …’
