A LORRY driver has been arrested by Laois gardaí after using a mobile phone behind the wheel.
‘Roaming charges apply. So do ours,’ the force said this afternoon, after the lorry was seized and towed away.
The culprit was already banned from driving when spotted on the phone by members of the Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU), who were on patrol at the time.
Describing the incident as a ‘masterclass in keeping a low profile’, gardaí said on social media:
‘Disqualified from driving?
Get in a lorry.
In a lorry?
Get on your phone.
On your phone in a lorry?
Drive on a public road.
Truly. Nobody will notice.
We noticed.’ The poetic post on the An Garda Síochána Laois Offaly sites added:
‘Call ended.
Driver arrested and charged.
Vehicle seized.’
The motorist faces a series of traffic charges, including driving while disqualified and using a phone while driving.
