Man (60s) still in critical condition after Laois assault

A MAN aged in his 60s remains in critical condition in hospital, nine days after he was assaulted in Laois.

Gardaí renewed their appeal for witnesses this afternoon in relation to the serious assault, which happened at about 1.15am on Main Street, Portarlington on Sunday 7 June.

The man was rushed to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of serious injuries and his condition remains critical.

Gardaí said today: ‘Gardaí continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information in relation to this incident, or who may have video footage (including dash-cam) who were in the area of Main Street, Portarlington, between 12.45am and 1.30am on Sunday 7 June.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

One man has already appeared at Portlaoise District Court in relation to the assault.

Gardaí said today that investigations are ongoing.
