The Mountmellick Macra Capers team has reached the All Ireland final of the competition

MAGNIFICENT members of Mountmellick Macra have reached the All Ireland final of the hotly contested Capers competition.

The multi-talented group saw off the challenge of five other teams to secure a place in the upcoming national final on 1 February.

Capers is a 20-minute variety show featuring comedy, dance, poetry and often topical issues from the news. The 14-strong cast from Mountmellick put on a fantastic show to win the semi-final in Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny on 11 January.

Their show called 'Un-laois'd: the Olympic Dream' reflected the title through sport, comedy, poetry about achieving peace, instrumental works and much more.

Members of the energetic ensemble are Nathan Flanagan, Aoife Oxley, Micheál Kilheeny, Alanah Conroy, Katelyn Dempsey, Ciara Hennessy, Sorcha Hartnett, Aoife Mallon, Kellie Fox, Zoe Dempsey, Niamh Feighery, Conan Kirwan, Sophie Ahern and Sue Le Blanc Meredith.

The producers are Colette Cashin and AC Reynolds, while Louise Ahern is choreographer, Larry Ryan is on lighting and Amy Strong is on sound. The backstage team is Chris Joyce, Joanne Teehan and Kevin Scott.

The hectic variety show features 13 acts within only 20 minutes, with challenging super-quick costume changes that add to the fun and enjoyment for cast and audience.

The team is looking forward to representing Laois in the All Ireland final at Mountmellick Arts Centre, when all support will be greatly appreciated. A brilliant night's entertainment is guaranteed, as six teams vie for the coveted Capers national title.
