Mountmellick Men’s Shed showcase their creative side

Mountmellick Men’s Shed Art Group members Joe Turner, Shay Keenan, Christy Conroy, Joe Kelly Johnny Culliton, Tom Gorry and LOETB Tutor Billy Dollard

MOUNTMELLICK Men’s Shed has worked alongside LOETB tutors Bill Dollard and Jack Byrne to create a collection of landscape paintings. The exhibition went on display in the beautiful setting of Mountmellick Community Arts Centre on Tuesday 16 December.

Following their success at the Laois Volunteer awards in the climate action award category, which honours initiatives that have a positive impact on climate change and sustainability, the gents were hard at work preparing for the art exhibition.

In preparation for the exhibition, they worked with woodwork tutor Jack Byrne to hand craft beautiful easels used to display the works created by the shed’s art group, led by tutor Billy Dollard.

Mountmellick men’s shed is based in a portable building located in the rear car park of Mountmellick Arts Centre. Earlier this year, they upgraded the premises’ heating system with solar panels and new radiators through grant funding and fundraising. The group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10pm but are enjoying a well-deserved rest until the new year.

For anyone who may have missed the exhibition night, The Gallery in Mountmellick library will host an exhibition showcasing the wonderful paintings and woodwork created by Mountmellick men’s shed in January. Keep an eye on Mountmellick library social media for updates.
