Mountrath CS team wins award in LEGO robot contest

The Nano Knights team from Mountrath CS won the Motive Award in the regional heat of the LEGO contest

A TEAM from Mountrath Community School scooped an award in a pioneering robotics competition.

The school’s Nano Knights won the Motive Award at a regional heat of the first LEGO League SUBMERGED tournament, which was held at The Connacht Hotel, Galway on 7 March.

Heats of the national hands-on robotics and problem-solving programme are being held throughout Ireland, with teams of students aged 10 to 16 learning to think creatively, like scientists and engineers.

The fun challenges involve a robot game and a research project, with LEGO technology used to explore layers of the ocean, bringing fresh ideas to the surface as students ‘sea’ into the future.

At the core of the initiative is a friendly contest, designed to fuel the enthusiasm of students. The teams and their coaches take on an exciting journey involving research, problem-solving, coding and engineering.
