THE beautiful new Stradbally Loop Walk was officially opened on Saturday 30 May, with a ceremony in the town’s Court Square at 12.30pm.

Laois Co Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Barry Walsh did the honours at the official opening, which was followed by a guided 3km walk and refreshments.

The event was organised by the SVT Activity & Wellness Hub in partnership with Stradbally Tidy Towns, with support from Laois Co Council.

Members of the public, community groups and visitors attended the opening ceremony and took part in the 3km community walk along the loop, which starts and ends in Corrig.

The council described the loop walk as an important investment in community wellbeing, outdoor recreation and sustainable tourism within Stradbally and the wider Laois area.

The project was funded under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) through the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht (DRCDG).

Cllr Walsh said: “I am delighted to officially open the Stradbally Loop Walk, a wonderful amenity that will benefit both the local community and visitors to the area for years to come.

“Projects such as this encourage healthy living, social connection and appreciation of the natural environment. I commend everyone involved in bringing this initiative to     fruition, particularly SVT Activity & Wellness Hub, Stradbally Tidy Towns and all community volunteers.” The ORIS funding programme supports the development of outdoor recreational infrastructure in rural areas, helping communities to enhance local amenities while promoting active lifestyles and tourism opportunities.
