TO MARK Local Development Week, Laois Partnership Company held an open morning at its Portlaoise premises on Friday 27 September.

The open morning was a lively and well-attended event, which was held to promote the work carried out by the local development company.

It also provided an opportunity to show its appreciation to colleagues and supporters.

Laois Partnership CEO Caroline Lydon said: “As the local development company for Laois, we have been working throughout the county for almost 20 years.

However, there is still little public awareness of the range of supports and services available.”

Laois Partnership, which was established in 2008, moved into the old Saint Francis School premises on the New Road in Portlaoise two years ago.

Attendees at the open morning were able to learn more about the services on offer, including social inclusion, rural development, work placement, childcare services, services to the elderly, social enterprise and climate action.

Besides information tables staffed by members of the various departments, there was also room for a polydome built by Liam Phelan of the Mountrath Men’s Shed, which was stocked with fresh produce from local allotments. Members of the men's shed group are assisted in their work by staff from Laois Partnership.
