Popular Laois hair salon to close down

A POPULAR Laois hair salon will close down this month, after many years in business.

Society Salon on Main Street, Portarlington, has announced that it will sadly close its doors for the last time at the end of next week.

The Society Salons Ireland group also has a busy outlet in Portlaoise, which will continue to operate. People with vouchers for the Portarlington branch will be able to use them in the Portlaoise salon.

Announcing the closure plans on social media on Tuesday evening, proprietor Ian Phelan said: ‘It's with a lot of sadness that we are announcing that Society Salon Portarlington will open its doors for the final day on Saturday 19 April.

‘This has been an extremely tough decision and we have loved being part of the business community in Portarlington but, with staff and other pressures, the salon will be closing.’ 

Thanking all staff and clients for their ‘amazing’ support over the years, Ian added: ‘We will of course be phoning all clients booked in after 19 April and we would be delighted to see any of the salon's clients in our Portlaoise salon. Thank you again for all your support over the years and hope to chat to some of you in Portlaoise and a huge thank you and best of luck to Hayley and the girls. It's been my pleasure working with you all.’ 

The post was shared by the Port News Ireland Facebook page, which described the closure as very sad news for the town. The impending closure was greeted with dismay by followers, with many praising the exceptional service and staff, particularly Hayley, Casey and Emma.

One said: ‘So sorry to see this salon go. Staff are so lovely and always do a great job’, while another commented: ‘Such a loss to the town.’
