Port Men's Shed launches podcast in old fire station

Portarlington Men's Shed members have launched their own podcast

MEMBERS of Portarlington Men’s Shed have launched their own podcast, broadcasting from their base in a 100-year-old former fire station.

The Port podcast is filled with stories, laughter and the wisdom of Michael Dempsey, Paddy Kelly, Martin Byrne, Tom Fitzgerald, Val Kennedy and the amazing men of the shed.

From building buddy benches for local schools to sharing DIY tips, poetry and personal reflections, the podcast is all about community, connection and celebrating lifelong learning.

The venture follows a similar podcast launch this week by Mountmellick Men’s Shed, capturing the magic of what makes the sheds so special. Both projects are supported by Laois Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB) Community Education and Adult Literacy for Life.

The Mountmellick podcast sees Joe Kelly, Brian Lynch, Tom Gorry and the friendly shed members open up about their lives, their stories and the laughter that keeps them going.

The podcasts celebrate the history of the sheds, tackle everyday challenges and have a bit of craic along the way. There are honest conversations, personal reflections and practical advice, all told by the men who make the sheds such warm and welcoming places.

The LOETB said: ‘We’re so proud to have worked with the Men’s Sheds on this amazing project. Together, we’ve shown how lifelong learning can change lives – creating space for new skills, fresh stories and connections that truly matter.’

The podcasts prove that it’s never too late to learn something new or to share your story.

Tune in for authentic conversations, laughter and a reminder of the power of connection. People can listen and subscribe on Spotify, see spotify.com.
