A DRUG driver with cannabis in the glove compartment and tyres ‘as bald as an egg’ was arrested in Portlaoise last night.

It was a case of ‘zero Focus’ for the motorist, whose untaxed Ford Focus was seized and towed away.

The car was pulled in by members of the Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU), who were on patrol in the town.

The driver failed a roadside drug test and there was €400 worth of cannabis in the glove box, according to gardaí. The individual was arrested and brought to a garda station to give a blood sample.

In a social media post today, gardaí said the motorist showed ‘a complete lack of attention to, well, everything …’

They said : ‘Tax ran out in 2024. NCT ran out in 2025. Luck ran out in 2026.

‘Two front tyres as bald as an egg. And the cherry on top … €400 worth of cannabis in the glove box.’

The An Garda Síochána Laois Offaly post added: ‘Zero focus on road safety. Zero focus on the law. And by the end of it … Zero Focus.’

The Focus was towed away on a recovery vehicle and court proceedings have commenced against the driver, for a series of road traffic offences.
