A BLACK Saab described as ‘a pot of gold’ has been seized by Laois gardaí.

The local force was in festive mood in advance of St Patrick’s Day, when they found the car at the end of a rainbow in Ballylinan this weekend.

‘The insurance policy must have been somewhere over this rainbow, as it was just as mythical as the pot of gold,’ said gardaí, as they posted an evocative picture from the scene on social media.

Members of the Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU) were out searching for the elusive pot of gold, dreaming of early retirement, when they found something else under a rainbow in Ballylinan on Saturday.

In a post titled ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ on the An Garda Síochána Laois Offaly Facebook page, imaginative gardaí said: ‘Irish folklore says you’ll find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

‘Laois RPU, while out patrolling for the elusive pot of gold and dreaming of early retirement, found something else under this rainbow … A black Saab being driven without insurance.’

Warming to the green theme, they added: ‘No leprechaun. No gold … No insurance.’

The ‘pot of gold’ was towed away from the scene by a recovery vehicle, after it was impounded by gardaí.

Court proceedings have commenced against the driver, who is definitely not in festive mood.
