A 15-year-old was caught driving on the M7 motorway in Laois at the weekend.
The teenager was on the way to Dublin in a Suzuki Swift when stopped by local gardaí on Sunday night.
The untaxed car was swiftly seized and towed away from the scene by a recovery vehicle.
Only fully licensed drivers can use the motorway and 17 is the minimum age for driving a car on any public road.
In a post on social media on Monday, gardaí commented: ‘Most 15-year-olds at the moment are at home flat out preparing for the Junior Cert.
‘Important subjects: Maths. Irish. Science. Last night on the M7, Laois RPU encountered a different subject entirely: Motorway Driving. (Definitely not on the syllabus).’
The An Garda Síochána Laois Offaly post added: ‘This vehicle was stopped travelling to Dublin with no tax and no insurance. No licence. Suzuki Swiftly Seized. Safe to say this subject won’t appear on the exam paper.’
