Visitor injured at Laois heritage site

Kerbing repairs have been sought for the heritage site in Timahoe, after a visitor suffered an ankle injury
AN appeal has been made for repairs to a kerb near the historic Round Tower in Timahoe, where a visitor recently suffered an injury.
Cllr Vivienne Phelan told a council meeting that she knew one person who suffered an ankle injury at the heritage site, because of an uneven surface on two sections of kerbing.
She said that work is needed “on two little sections where the kerb meets the road” near the 12th century Round Tower and heritage centre, which attracts large numbers of local visitors and tourists.
At the December meeting of Graiguecullen-Portarlington Municipal District, she proposed that the county council ‘make safe the road surface close to the kerb adjacent to the Round Tower, Timahoe’.
Cllr Phelan said the historic site was an important attraction for the county and the least the council could do was to make it safe for pedestrians. The proposal was seconded by Timahoe native Cllr Paschal McEvoy.
Senior engineer Philip McVeigh said the council would arrange to meet cllr Phelan at the site to review safety issues and determine any repairs needed.
