A WOMAN charged with stealing €461 worth of goods from a branch of Dunnes Stores was last week convicted and fined when she appeared before Carlow District Court. Claudia Veresan was fined €400 for stealing the goods from Dunnes Stores, Graiguecullen on 27 July this year. Sergeant Peter Smyth told Judge Geraldine Carthy that the defendant left the shop without paying on that date.

Solicitor Tash Van Eeden said that all the goods were recovered by the shop and that Ms Veresan (40), who is Romanian, had €460 in court which she could pay into the court poor box and so avoid a conviction.

Judge Carthy didn’t allow the submission and instead convicted and fined Ms Veresan of Island Road, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.
