In Dublin, more than 110,000 passengers are expected to travel through the airport every day between Friday and Monday.

Head of media relations at the operator of Dublin Airport (daa), Graeme McQueen, said: “The coming weekend is shaping up to be another busy one at Dublin Airport, Friday is forecast to be the peak day, when around 121,000 people are set to travel through the airport.

"The departure gates will be busy with sports fans, holiday makers and business travellers heading off overseas, while the arrivals halls will welcome tens of thousands of tourists from around the world – including many arriving for the Leinster versus Toulon rugby match on Saturday and Punchestown Races, which kicks off today and runs until the weekend.

"We love these busy weekends and the team at Dublin Airport can't wait to welcome everyone."

Managing director at Cork Airport, Niall MacCarthy, said: “As the May bank holiday weekend approaches, summer is now in full swing at Cork Airport. It’s great to see our airport so busy and the capital programme now underway will provide the airport infrastructure for the next ten years of growth.”
