Powering Ahead: Portlaoise Firm Invests €3.5M in Expansion and Local Jobs

Alpha Drives Portlaoise
A leading Portlaoise-based engineering company has announced a major €3.5 million expansion of its operations, aimed at increasing production capacity and creating up to 30 new jobs in the area.
Originally founded in Clonminam Business Park, the company relocated in 2023 to a purpose-built facility at Junction 17 National Enterprise Park. The move has proven highly successful, with Portlaoise's central location and excellent road connectivity providing significant logistical advantages for servicing clients nationwide.
Currently employing 25 people, the company serves a diverse range of industries including Data Centres, Wastewater, Food & Beverage, and the Chemical and Pharmaceutical sectors. Strategic partnerships with Siemens, Flender, and Innomotics enable the business to deliver an extensive range of industrial solutions, including the design and manufacture of custom-built control panels.
Now entering Phase 2 of its development, the firm is expanding its facility to boost its switchgear assembly capabilities. The investment will also fund new automated equipment to increase production efficiency and capacity—supporting larger-scale industrial projects as demand continues to grow.
The €3.5 million development is being fully self-funded and will be spent predominantly in the local area. John Conlon Construction, a Portlaoise-based contractor, has been appointed to carry out the works, with all materials being sourced locally where possible.
Once complete, the expansion is expected to create up to 30 new skilled roles, reinforcing the company's long-term commitment to growth and investment in the Midlands.
