A young man is in a serious condition in hospital, after a van he was travelling in was involved in a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Limerick city centre, on Saturday morning.

The male, believed to be in his late teens, was travelling in the caddy van with two other males when, it is understood, it collided with a number of parked cars.

The van overturned and came to a rest on its roof.

The collision occurred around 6am at the R445, Dublin Road, Limerick.

The seriously injured teen, who is believed to have been a passenger, was ejected from the van in the collision.

He was attended to by paramedics the scene and taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick (UHL).

The other two males were also taken from the scene by ambulance to UHL where they were being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí have closed off the roadway between the Parkway roundabout and Park Road at Dublin Road.

A Garda forensic collision investigator has been notified and will perform a forensic examination at the scene.

The car involved in the collision remains in its roof at the scene.

Gardaí at Henry Street Garda Station are investigating.
