Two men have been arrested following reports of aggravated vehicle taking and an attempted hijacking in Lisburn on Friday night, the PSNI said.

In a statement, the force said that at around 9pm, a Hyundai Tucson crashed into a tree in the Lower Ballinderry Road area.

Two men left the car and stopped another vehicle, and asked its driver for a lift.

During the conversation, one man tried to open the driver’s door, while the second man tried to open the boot; both were unsuccessful.

The two men then made off on foot before stopping a Vauxhall Vivaro van, grabbing the keys and dragging the driver and passenger from the vehicle.

It was then driven to Aghalee where officers found it crashed into a wall, with both men injured at the scene.

The PSNI have appealed for anyone who witnessed either crash or who has any information to contact them.
