A Ukrainian man pleaded guilty on Monday to the attempted murder of a woman at a holiday home in Co Kerry last year.
Hryhorii Sryotenko, (49), with an address at Banna Beach Holiday Homes, Adfert, pleaded guilty to the charge at the Central Criminal Court, sitting in Limerick.
Mr Sryotenko admitted one count of attempting to murder Victoria Pavienko at the holiday homes, on January 13th, 2024.
Sryotenko was also previously charged with assault causing serious harm, false imprisonment and producing a knife during the course of a dispute, arising out of the same incident.
At a sitting of Tralee District Court, June 5th, 2024, Detective Garda Anthony Wharton gave evidence of arresting, charging and cautioning Sryotenko on the attempted murder charge.
The court heard Sryotenko replied: “I didn't want to kill her.”
Sryotenko has been in custody since he was arrested in 2024, and he had not sought bail.
Throughout the course of the proceedings Sryotenko has been granted free legal aid as well as a court language interpreter.
Sryotenko was remanded in continuing custody for sentence later this year.
