A woman in her 80s has died following a five vehicle crash on the M1 last Friday.

The crash took place in Platin, Drogheda, Co Meath on Friday, December 19th around 11.10am.

The five vehicles collided on the M1 northbound  just before the toll bridge.

Three people were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for treatment. One of those, the woman in her 80s, died on Tuesday morning.

The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
