A woman has been arrested as part of a Garda operation which also led to the seizure of guns and improvised explosives in Co Louth.

Gardaí carried out several searches in Dundalk on Friday as part of an “investigation targeting an organised crime group”.

Several homes were searched in the operation which involved the Regional Armed Support Unit, the Special Detective Unit and the Army explosive ordnance disposal unit.

The guns and explosives have been sent for further technical examination.

A woman, aged in her 30s, was arrested and detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 and held in a station in the north-east of the county.

She can be detained for up to 72 hours, excluding breaks.

A garda spokesperson said: “Investigations are ongoing.”
