A man in his 40s and woman in her 80s have died in two separate crashes in Co Clare and Limerick City.

The Co Clare incident, which involved two cars, happened on the R352 near Tulla at around 3.30pm on Monday.

A woman in her 80s, who was a passenger in one of the cars, was taken to University Hospital Limerick with serious injuries.

She died on Tuesday morning.

The drivers of the cars, both women in their 50s, were taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.

The road has reopened following a technical examination.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to come forward and say a family liaison officer has been appointed to the pensioner’s family.

In Limerick, a male cyclist in his 40s was involved in a road incident on the Dublin Road, Mountshannon, shortly after 2pm on Tuesday.

He left the scene and travelled to a residence, and received treatment by emergency services.

The was pronounced dead on Tuesday afternoon.

Gardaí have also appealed for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
