The body of a fisherman has been recovered from the sea in West Cork after a search operation.

It is believed the man in his 50s went pollock fishing from Castletownbere last night.

The alarm was raised when debris was spotted close to Blackball Head on the Beara peninsula on Tuesday morning, with Valentia Coastguard coordinating the operation.

Shortly before half eight, the man's body was recovered by a local boat, and it's now been removed to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem exam.
