Eoghan Chelmiah ready for the start of his fight in Boston
ARLES native Eoghan Chelmiah made an emphatic start to his professional boxing career with a devastating first-round technical knockout victory in Boston on Saturday 20 June.
The County Laois fighter, already distinguished as the inaugural Karate Combat Bantamweight World Champion, returned to the ring at the Reggie Lewis Centre, where he faced experienced Mexican boxer Jesus Antonio Rios Castro in a scheduled six-round bout.
Any prospect of a prolonged contest quickly faded as Chelmiah took control from the opening bell. Fighting at a high tempo, he forced Castro into a standing count within 30 seconds after landing a series of sharp, powerful punches.

Sensing vulnerability, Chelmiah pressed relentlessly, delivering 18 unanswered punches before the referee intervened to stop the contest at just 1 minute and 8 seconds of the opening round.
The dominant display secured a technical knockout victory and marked a highly impressive professional debut for the Laois fighter.
Chelmiah’s performance highlighted his speed, accuracy and finishing ability—attributes that proved decisive against an experienced opponent. His return to boxing, following success in multiple combat disciplines, appears to have paid immediate dividends.

The victory is expected to generate significant excitement among supporters in Arles and across County Laois, where his achievements continue to be followed with pride.
For Chelmiah, it was a statement debut that signals his emergence as a promising talent on the professional boxing stage.
