Inter-Club glory as The Heath complete remarkable double

THE Heath Golf Club etched its name into the history books this season by achieving a remarkable inter-club double, capturing both the Central Towns Trophy and the Duggan Cup in a year of outstanding success.

The club's Central Towns Trophy triumph was sealed at Tullamore Golf Club, where they overcame local rivals Portlaoise Golf Club in a keenly contested singles matchplay final. The victory crowned a superb campaign and added one of the region's most coveted titles to The Heath's honours list.

The winning team featured Tony Murray, Brochan O'Reilly, Sean O'Neill, Dermot Carolan, Tony Keenan and Jack Bergin. The side was expertly guided throughout the competition by managers John Bergin and Dermot Carolan.

There was little time for celebrations, however, as The Heath soon added a second major title to their collection. In the Duggan Cup final at Edenderry Golf Club, they defeated Beech Park Golf Club in foursomes matchplay to complete a historic double.

The successful Duggan Cup panel included JB Conroy, Liam Connell, Cathal Whelan, Matthew Keegan, Denny Jacob, Jim McCarthy, John Bergin, Denis Aldritt, Liam Horgan, Pat Tynan, Andy Dalton and Noel Browne. Barry Larkin and Dominic Connell managed the team throughout the victorious campaign.

Winning two prestigious inter-club competitions in the same season is a rare achievement and highlights the strength and depth within The Heath Golf Club. The success reflects not only the performances of the players but also the dedication of team managers, supporters and club members who backed both sides every step of the way.
