A YOUNG Laois boxer has been making waves across the water in England winning his first three professional bouts, but he has one endearing dream, and that is to fight in his home county as a professional.

Cian Reddy always wanted to be a boxer and, once he got a taste for the fight game, his ambition was to turn professional. That he did in the middle of last year.

Since then he has been unbeaten in his three professional outings, the latest just Saturday when he got the better of Jake Smith in Bradford.

It looks like the Mountmellick boxer’s next fight could be in Ireland later this year. And while it may not be the case this time around, there is nothing Reddy more than to bring professional boxing to Laois, and to be more precise to Laois Hire O’Moore Park.

He went as far as to say that the Portlaoise venue would be more appealing than Madison Square Garden as it has been a dream of his to fight professionally in his home county.

Speaking to irish-boxing.com , Reddy said: “I’d love to have the first professional boxing show in Laois. Please God by the end of the year or early next year.

“The support I get from the town and people around is unreal. I think that would create a massive buzz around the place and it would give everyone something to look forward to.” But the young welterweight is realistic as to where he presently stands and whet his ambitions are.

“I’ve still only been a professional boxer a few months and I’m seeing improvements, so it’s important to learn and develop. I’m just looking at it fight by fight, improving between each fight and developing as a professional boxer.” Reddy also said: “Ever since I was a kid I always looked at turning professional. I had a great amateur career getting to travel the world, and thanks to Portlaoise Boxing Club for giving me the opportunities. But I always wanted to turn professional.”
