Motorist recorded driving 182km/h in 100 zone in Co Leitrim

A motorist was caught driving 182km/h in a 100 zone on the N4 Moher, Aughamore, Co. Leitrim, as over 2540 drivers have been caught speeding over the bank holiday weekend.

As part of this weekend's Roads Policing Operation, 88 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Other high speeds include a driver going 113 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the N2 Drumcaw in Co Monaghan.

A motorist was caught driving 101 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on the Dublin Road in Galway.

Another driver was going 96 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the Navan Road in Dublin 15.

Just over 270 drivers were detected holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.

So far, one person has died in a crash over the bank holiday weekend.

The total number of fatalities on Irish roads to date this year is 109.
