Council chief gives update to councillors on significant developments in county
Chief Executive of Laois Co Council Michael Rainey
AT the latest meeting of Laois County Council, Chief Executive of Laois County Council Michael Rainey delivered a report on the most significant developments across the county.
In his report, Mr Rainey highlighted that the recent amendment to zoning regulations in the county development plan, which was put through at a special meeting of the County Council in June, had been received positively across all quarters.
Another recent success, he considered worth noting, was the long-awaited installation of the Ballyroan Playground, remembering it as a “really great” opening day with incredibly “intense” weather. It was an “exemplar,” he believed, of what could be achieved when you combined local and national funding and would doubtless be of generational significance to Ballyroan.
A redesign of the Mountrath town square was also proceeding at pace, with plans moving forward behind the scenes.
Laois County Council have also appointed a new Head of Local Enterprise Lisa Molloy, whom the councillors took the time to welcome to the post.
Mr Rainey also heaped praise on the staff of the area office for their dedication in securing the funding necessary for the development and updating of the Borris and Dublin Roads. Keeping on the theme of roads, he highlighted a recent Road Safety Campaign conducted in schools across Laois.
Library figures across the county were up with a thousand new members registered this year already, with 435of those members registered in May alone, figures which he said would be the envy of any district looking to boost interest in their local library services.
Finally turning to housing, the CE said that while they had yet to receive the targets for their new strategy, they had already opened 50 new housing units which was a testament, hesaid, to the council’s success in the area of housing.
