Portlaoise District Court

A WOMAN who smashed the window of a house because she resented her mother’s choice of partner was ordered to take part in an alcohol awareness course.

Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes told Portlaoise District Court that at 1am on the morning of 21 August a woman was captured on CCTV breaking windows of a house in Portarlington. When gardaí arrested her, she made full admissions and told them that she had been drunk on the night.

He said the defendant Chloe Teasdale (30) from Canal Gardens, Portarlington had no previous convictions and that the incident took place at Ballymorris Manor, Portarlington and caused €250 in damages.

Defending solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said that Ms Teasdale “had deep rooted resentment for the injured party’s choice of partner, which was the source of friction.” He said the damage was caused to a council owned house, to which Judge Susan Fay said: “The state are out of pocket so,” and went on to instruct the defendant to take part in the Athy Alternative Programme, remanded Ms Teasdale on continuing bail to 16 February and ordered she has full compensation on that date to pay for the damage she caused.
