A LOCAL man who allegedly produced industrial pliers in two attempted robberies around the town was sent forward to the February 19 sitting of Portlaoise Circuit Criminal Court.

Garda Lisa Murry served a book of evidence on the defendant’s solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick by consent of her client Robert Dwane from Mountain View Square, Portlaoise when he appeared by video link from custody at Portlaoise District Court last week.

Mr Dwane is charged with attempted robbery at Mountmellick Road and with the production of industrial pliers on 28 September. He is also charged with the same offences that allegedly took place at Greenmill Lane, Portlaoise on 4 October.

Judge White gave the defendant an alibi warning advising him that he must notify gardaí in writing within 14 days if he wished to rely on an alibi in his defence.

Ms Fitzpatrick asked for herself and two counsel to be assigned to the case, which was approved by Judge White.
