Portlaoise Courthouse
JUDGE Peter White imposed reporting restrictions when a man came before an in-camera sitting at last week’s sitting of the district court in Portlaoise.
The 22-year-old Laois man was before the court charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of the defilement of a child under the age of 15 at a location in Co Laois on 26 April.
Det garda Collins said that when the charges were put to the defendant, he made no reply.
She said that bail conditions had been agreed between the gardaí and the defendant and she was applying to remand the man on his own bail to allow time for a book of evidence to be served on him.
Solicitor for the defendant Brian Duffy said that his client was giving an undertaking that he would abide by all the conditions of his bail.
Judge Peter White went on to remand the accused on his own bail to the 5 March sitting of the district court for the service of a book of evidence.
