Laois man facing two charges of money laundering
Portlaoise District Court
A LAOiS MAN was sent forward to the present sitting of Portlaoise Circuit Criminal Court when Garda Lisa Murray served him with a book of evidence at last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
Dylan Mughal from 35 Colliers Wood, Portlaoise is charged with two counts of money laundering, €5,000 on each count, on 1 and 3 March 2024.
When Judge Susan Fay was about to issue the formal alibi warning to the accused, she noted he was not present in court.
Asked where he was, his barrister Anne Doyle said: “He was here earlier,” to which Gda Murray said she had spoken with Mr Mughal earlier that morning. She said: “I told him that he had to stay.” “He should be here in court for his book of evidence,” said Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby.
Judge Fay said she would issue a bench warrant for his arrest and in the meantime if he turned up in court, she would rescind the order.
Later in the day 23-year-old Mr Mughal was back in court to receive the book of evidence and to be formally put on notice of his alibi warning by Judge Fay who advised him to notify the prosecution within 14 days if he intended to use an alibi in his defence.
She also granted leave for a solicitor and one barrister to represent him at the circuit court sitting of his case.
