Laois man fails to appear in court for allegedly stealing tube of toothpaste

Portlaoise Courthouse

A MAN who allegedly stole an €8 tube of toothpaste failed to appear at the local district court last week when his case was called.

John Paul Delaney from Clonrooske View, Portlaoise had been due in court to answer a charge of the theft of the toothpaste from the MiHealth Pharmacy, Portlaoise Shopping Centre, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise on 15 December.

The 35-year-old’s solicitor, Philip Meagher, told Judge Andrew Cody that he had attempted to contact his client on several occasions to inform him about his date in court but was unable to do so.

Judge Cody remanded Mr Delaney on continuing bail to the 9 February sitting of the court.
