A PORTLAOISE man was fined a total of €800 when he was convicted of motoring offences when he appeared at the local district court recently.

Paul Francis O’Shea (41), 56 Mell Street, Kilminchy, Portlaoise pleaded guilty to the non-display of an insurance disc and to having no NCT on his Audi car on 19 August last year.

Garda Insp Barry Houilihan said that on that date, gardaí stopped Mr O’Shea driving his car on Jessop Street, Portlaoise and found that the NCT on his car had expired over a year and that there was no insurance disc on display.

Defence solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said that Mr O’Shea’s car is now off the road. She said that her client had insurance cover for his car, but the certificate wasn’t on display on the day.

Insp Houlihan said the defendant had 47 previous convictions that included assault, criminal damage, trespass and motoring offences.

Ms Fitzpatrick said that her client “had amassed a number of those convictions in his younger years.” Judge Andrew Cody fined Mr O’Shea €400 on each of the summonses.
