Laois man must produce full compensation next April

Portlaoise District Court

A MAN who had previously pleaded guilty to assault, criminal damage and with violent disorder in Mountmellick was given to next April to gather up the full compensation for the damage he caused.

John McDonagh from Irishtown, Mountmellick had previously been in court where he pleaded guilty to assault, violent disorder and to criminally damaging the back window of a car at College View, Mountmellick on 18 April last year.

Defending solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said that her 24-year-old client had successfully completed the Athy Alternative Programme which he had been ordered to do by the court as well as engaged positively with the probation and welfare services.

She said: “The victim is at a loss of €500. He has €200. It’s a work in progress.” “I’ll give him time to collect the rest of the money. But I want the full amount. In the meantime, I will refer him to the Restorative Justice Programme,” said Judge Susan Fay.

She went on to remand Mr McDonagh on continuing bail to the 13 April sitting of the court.
