A MAN who sent offensive messages to his former partner on the Facebook social media site calling her a d***head, sc**bag and telling her to f**k off was fined €400 at Portlaoise Family Law Court.

The 40-year-old Laois man, who cannot be identified due to reporting restrictions in family law cases, pleaded guilty to the offence of breaching a safety order, which occurred on dates between 20-21 January.

Garda Sgt JJ Kirby said the injured party in the case contacted gardaí after she had received messages from her ex-partner calling her a d***head, sc**bag and telling her to f**k off.

Barrister for the accused Andrew Dunne said it was an isolated incident and there was no malice intended.

Judge Andrew Cody ruled as outlined.
