Laois man stole Fixodent, cola and cheese from Tesco store

Portlaoise District Court

A MAN who stole a tube of Fixodent denture adhesive, a can of Pepsi Cola and a packet of cheese from Tesco was given until April next year to come up with the money to pay for the goods when he came before last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

Before the court was Mario Morabito from 11 Loughgate, Portarlington. He pleaded guilty to the theft of the items valued at €11.98 from the Tesco Extra store in Fairgreen, Portlaoise on 22 September.

Defending solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said that his 58-year-old client had worked as a chef but ran into difficulties and developed a reliance on cannabis.

Mr Fitzgerald said Mr Morabito is still smoking cannabis and would be able to provide reparations for the next court date.

Judge Susan Fay remanded the defendant on continuing bail to the 27 April sitting of the court and in the interim ordered that he take part in the restorative justice programme and engages with the probation and welfare services as well as having full compensation on that date.
