A 34-YEAR-old Portlaoise man was given the benefit of the Probation Act when he appeared by video link from custody at the local District Court last week.

Darren O’Gorman from O’Moore Place, Portlaoise pleaded guilty to possessing €30 worth of cannabis at his address on 6 November last year.

The court was told that Mr O’Gorman is doing well since he was placed in custody on other matters.

It heard that the defendant was taking the drug at the time that he was addicted to cannabis.

Judge Andrew Cody ruled as outlined.
