Laois woman found drunk arrested for her own safety

Portlaoise District Court
A WOMAN who was found drunk in her pyjamas at 4.30am in the morning, after leaving Portlaoise Hospital A&E department, had to be arrested for her own safety and that of others was fined €100 at Portlaoise District Court last week.
That’s what Judge Susan Fay heard when Laura Murphy from Borness, Mountmellick, pleaded guilty to being intoxicated along the Dublin Road in Portlaoise on 31 October 2023.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said that gardaí received a call about the 40-year-old woman who had left the A&E department of the hospital in her pyjamas. He said gardaí found her a short time later in a drunken state and arrested her. He said she was issued with a fixed charge penalty notice that went unpaid.
Defending solicitor Philip Meagher said that his client had attended the A&E that night, became very agitated and left.
He said that Ms Murphy wants to thank the gardaí for their assistance at the time.
Judge Fay ruled as outlined.
