Laois woman on drink driving charge alleges she was ‘battered and tortured’ by gardaí

“I WAS battered and tortured by the gardaí,” claimed a woman who was before a recent sitting of Portlaoise District Court.

Tatiana Matrosova from 35 Sporing Crescent Kilcoran, Rathdowney was before the court charged with drink driving at Togher, Abbeyleix Road, Portlaoise; careless driving along the N77 at Curriersbog, Abbeyleix Road, Portlaoise; and with refusing to supply a sample at Abbeyleix Garda Station on 19 October.

Judge Andrew Cody was told that when Ms Matrosova was cautioned and charged with the offences that she replied: “I was battered and tortured by the gardaí.” Judge Cody adjourned the case to 11 December to allow time for the defendant to enter a guilty or not guilty plea and set 12 February for a full hearing in the case if she entered a not guilty plea to the charges.
