Portlaoise Courthouse
A LOCAL woman with 115 previous convictions and who is currently serving a prison sentence was given two three-month suspended sentences at Portlaoise District Court last week.
Judge Andrew Cody was told that 39-year-old Theresa Conroy from Hynd’s Square, Portlaoise was pleading guilty to the theft of €319 worth of goods from the Nook and Cranny Gift Shop, Main Street, Portlaoise and €139 worth of clothes from Dunnes Stores, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise, both on 9 July 2024.
The defendant’s solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said that her client was currently serving a one-year and nine-month sentence and is due for release on 27 January next year.
Ms Fitzpatrick said that Ms Conroy has been in custody since 28 August and was engaging well and attending school in prison.
Judge Cody said that considering the number of previous convictions, he was convicting Ms Conroy of both offences, imposed three-month sentences, which he suspended for three years, on each.
