A MOTORIST was told that he was very lucky he didn’t kill himself or other people with the amount of alcohol that was in his system while he was driving through Portlaoise.

That’s what Judge Andrew Cody said to Piotr Lange, 29 Higgins Park, Fairgreen, Portlaoise, when he appeared at the local district court.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby told the court that while gardaí were on duty at Station Road on 18 September last, they observed Mr Lange “driving his car all over the road, narrowly avoiding a collision”.

He said that a sample provided by the defendant returned a reading of 343 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine.

“It’s a very high reading. It’s lucky that you didn’t kill yourself or other people,” said Judge Andrew Cody, before going on to fine Mr Lange €500 and disqualifying him from driving for three years.
