Prosecuting garda appreciated Laois defendant’s early plea
Portlaoise District Court
A COURT presenter told a solicitor that he appreciates her client entering an early plea to a charge of theft as it ‘saves a lot of time.’ The comment was made by garda sgt JJ Kirby when Bernie Moore (42) from Oakglen, Stradbally pleaded guilty to the theft of ten cans of Heineken valued at €21.50 from SuperValu, Main Street Stradbally on 6 September.
Appreciating the early plea to the charge at last week’s sitting of the district court in Portlaoise, sgt Kirby said that the accused had no previous convictions.
Judge Andrew Cody remanded Ms Moore on continuing bail to 17 November next year (2026) for finalisation and granted free legal aid.
