Query about validity of Laois motorist's insurance at time of road accident

Portlaoise District Court
THERE was a question raised over whether the insurance certificate of a woman who had been involved in a single vehicle accident was in date at the time of the accident, when the matter was raised at the District Court in Portlaoise last week.
Garda Stephen Lynott told Judge Andrew Cody that on 19 October 2023 he had been alerted to a single vehicle accident at The Rock, Mountmellick, where a woman had lost control of her car.
He said that at the scene the driver Linda Molloy (35) 46 College View, Mountmellick, who was not present in court, told him that she had insurance cover on her car.
Gda Lynott said a couple of months later Ms Molloy flagged him down and produced her insurance certificate, which he informed her he thought was out of date, to which she said she would recheck it.
He told Judge Cody that he was “surprised Ms Molloy is not here in court today.” Judge Cody adjourned the case for hearing on 11 December.
