TWO cheques totalling €20,000 were presented to two local charities following the outstanding success of this year’s Spirit of Laois charity golf classic, organised by Laois Chamber Alliance. This generous act of charity demonstrates the strength, generosity and community spirit of businesses across Laois.

At a special cheque presentation on Wednesday 24 June, €10,000 was presented to Saplings Special School, Killeshin, accepted by principal Lesley Brant, and €10,000 was presented to Laois Domestic Abuse Service, accepted by Marna Carroll on behalf of the organisation.

The funds were raised at the Spirit of Laois charity golf classic at Portarlington Golf club, which brought together businesses, golfers, sponsors and supporters from across the county for a day of golf, networking and fundraising. Rory’s Stories served as MC for the evening, adding energy and entertainment to the event.

Speaking following the presentation, Jackie Carroll, CEO of Laois Chamber Alliance, said:

“The Spirit of Laois charity golf classic is about much more than golf. It shows what can happen when businesses across Laois come together with purpose, generosity and a shared commitment to supporting our county.

“We are incredibly grateful to every sponsor, team, prize donor, volunteer and supporter who made this possible. Raising €20,000 for Saplings Special School and Laois Domestic Abuse Service is a remarkable achievement and reflects the very best of Laois businesses.

“For us, the Chamber is about connection, visibility and advocacy. We want businesses across Laois to be part of a practical, positive and countywide network that supports business, is the leading voice of business and helps local businesses make a meaningful difference in the communities where they operate.” For Laois Chamber Alliance, the donation reflects the Chamber’s role in bringing businesses together, creating opportunities for connection and visibility and providing a strong voice for business across Co Laois. The success of the fundraiser shows what can be achieved when local businesses work together and the Chamber will build on that momentum through its programme of events, networking and business supports for the remainder of the year.

The winning team featured Rory O’Connor of Rory’s Stories, Dr Michelle Byrne, John O’Connor and Ciarán Finane. In a generous gesture, the team donated their Finline Furniture prize hampers to Laois Domestic Abuse Service.

Laois Chamber Alliance also thanked Portarlington Golf club for its exceptional hospitality and extended its appreciation to every sponsor, volunteer, prize donor, golfer and supporter, whose generosity made the fundraising success possible.
