Laois community projects share over half a million euro in grants

A total of €575,415 has been awarded to 13 local projects under the CLÁR programme, which provides funding for small scale schemes in rural areas. The minimum grant in Laois is €5,000 and the maximum is €50,000.
The latest round of funding will be shared by projects in Ballacolla, Errill, Ballyfin, Mountrath, Donaghmore, Rathdowney and Vicarstown.
Nine schemes that will receive €50,000 each are Ballyfin NS, Ballyfin Community Playground, Donaghmore Workhouse Museum, Vicarstown Blueway, St Aengus FC in Mountrath, Clough Ballacolla GAA, Errill GAA, Ballyfin GAA and Colt GAA.
The grant for Ballyfin NS will go towards an upgrade to the outdoor play area, a multi-purpose outdoor playing surface, a biodiversity garden and a sensory trail The other four projects that will share the remaining €125,000 under the programme are Clonin Sportsfield, Knock chapel, St Joseph’s GAA and Clover Utd in Rathdowney.
The grants will be spent on the development of sports and outdoor facilities such as playgrounds, Astro turf pitches, running tracks, walkways and other amenities.
The local funding is part of an €11.4m package for 264 projects nationwide, which was announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys on 7 October.
