A MAN appeared before Portlaoise District Court accused of stealing his mother’s TV and selling it on for €50.

The man is alleged to have entered his mother’s home on 15 November last year and stole a 43 inch smart television, which he later sold for €50.

Gavin Lawless (24), Rossvale, Mountmellick Road, Portlaoise appeared before the court charged with burglary, where Garda Sgt JJ Kirby outlined the allegation.

He told the court that on the date, Mr Lawless allegedly entered his mother’s address as a trespasser and removed a 43 inch smart TV.

“He was seen on CCTV carrying the television down the road and sold it for €50,” Sgt Kirby alleged.

Defence solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said that the injured party had made a submission seeking to withdraw the complaint. Sgt Kirby responded that the sState was aware of Mr Lawless’s mother’s submission.

Judge Susan Fay remanded Mr Lawless to the 28 July sitting of Portlaoise District Court, where a full hearing of the case will take place.
