New water pipes for Laois road

Uisce Eireann will carry out the works

MORE than one kilometre of old leaking water mains is set to be replaced by new, more modern pipes on Derry Road, Durrow.

The works are set to start this week, with Uisce Éireann crews expected on site to begin the programme of mains replacement.

Dave Murphy, portfolio manager at Uisce Éireann, said the works will provide customers in Durrow with a more secure and reliable drinking water supply.

“The replacement of these water mains will improve the resilience of the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground.

“We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works.” Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services to the people of Ireland.

Shareridge, a civil engineering solutions specialist, is carrying out these works under Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme. The works are expected to be completed by early spring.

Fianna Fáil TD Seán Fleming said he is pleased with the announcement: “This will ensure a more reliable drinking water supply for people who live in the area,” he said.

“Currently, there are substantial leaks resulting in good, clean water being lost underground. The works commencing next week will eliminate this … I look forward to these works being completed, resulting in an improved water supply and the reduction in water leaks in Durrow.”
