Over a quarter of a million euro raised in 24 hours for family injured in M9 tragedy

A GoFundMe page has been launched to help support three sisters, Alma Kinsella, Niamh Kinsella, and Ella Hendricken, who were injured alongside a seven year old boy in the recent M9 crash.

MORE than €240,000 has been raised for a Carlow family who remain in critical and serious conditions in hospital following a head-on collision on the M9 motorway at Moone in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Over 8,300 donations have been made to the fundraiser, which was organised by Bryan Curley, a close friend of Ella Hendricken, to support Ella, her sisters Alma and Niamh Kinsella and their family as they face a long recovery.

There has been a significant outpouring of support for the family since pictures of Ella, Alma and Niamh were first published on Tuesday afternoon.

Among those to donate were Roz Purcell and Garron Noone, who each contributed €1,000.

In a message on the fundraiser’s webpage, Bryan said: “This has been an incredibly difficult and frightening time for Ella, Niamh, Alma and their family. They are facing a long and challenging road ahead, and right now, I ask that you keep them all in your thoughts and prayers. All funds are going directly to the family.” The three siblings, Alma and Niamh Kinsella, both aged in their 30s, and their younger sister Ella Hendricken, aged in her 20s, along with their seven-year-old nephew, were seriously injured after the vehicle they were travelling in was struck by a black BMW travelling in the wrong direction on the M9.

The five teenage occupants of the BMW, who have been named locally, lost their lives in the collision.

The family, who are originally from Bennekerry but now live in Graiguecullen, were making their way to Dublin Airport to travel to the UK for a family wedding when the crash occurred.

Alma and Niamh Kinsella, who are understood to have been travelling in the front of the car, remain in critical condition at Tallaght University Hospital, while Ella Hendricken is being treated for serious injuries at St Vincent’s Hospital.

It is believed the seven-year-old boy is being treated for serious leg injuries at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin.
